We Were Here Too: The History and Contributions of the Original Mexican Families to the Palm Springs Village

Hispanic Heritage Month

Join us for We Were Here Too: The History and Contributions of the Original Mexican Families to the Palm Springs Village. Telling their families' stories, this event is presented by local historians and authors Barbara Eves, Cydronia Valdez and Vera Wall. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. in The Learning Center

In celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 – October 15), these three authors and women of the community will share the stories of their ancestors and other original Hispanic families that helped to settle the Village of Palm Springs. During and after the Mexican revolution, thousands of families left Mexico, leaving political strife behind. That was the case for the original Mexican families that will be discussed. They followed jobs which were plentiful in agriculture, the railroad and construction. Arriving in the desert in the 1920s, this was the beginning of a new life in a new country for these families.

Vera Wall, Barbara Eves and Cydronia Valdez are from the Prieto, Fontes-Ayala and Marmolejo families, respectively.
