Thursday, November 29, 2018; 6:00 p.m.: City Council Meeting - Public Hearing #3

A City Council Public Hearing to seek resident and stakeholder input on the content of the draft district map(s) and sequence of election. It is anticipated that the City Council will select a preferred district map and make final modifications as necessary.

Monday, December 10, 2018; 6:00 p.m.: City Council Meeting - Public Hearing #4

A City Council Public Hearing to adopt the final map and introduce the ordinance to transition to a district-based electoral system.

Wednesday, December 19, 2018; 6:00 p.m.: City Council Meeting - Public Hearing #5

A City Council Public Hearing to adopt an ordinance to transition to a district-based electoral system.

PHASE I ● Process & Communities of Interest

Wednesday, June 20, 2018; 6:00 p.m.: City Council Meeting - Public Hearing #1 (Video)

A City Council Public Hearing to review the districting process, summarize the demographics of the City, and seek input from residents and stakeholders regarding potential communities of interest. Staff will also demonstrate how residents can develop their own proposed district maps for the City Council's consideration.

The City Council Ad Hoc Subcommittee on the Voting Rights Act and staff will facilitate three (3) Community Engagement Forums throughout Palm Springs to seek input from residents and stakeholders on potential communities of interest. Staff will also demonstrate how residents can develop their own proposed district maps for the City Council's consideration.

A City Council Public Hearing to review the districting process, summarize the demographics of the City, and seek input from residents and stakeholders regarding potential communities of interest. Staff will also demonstrate how residents can develop their own proposed district maps for the City Council's consideration.

MAP DRAWING WORKSHOPS

The community is invited to attend a hands-on workshop to learn more about the various map drawing tools. City staff and the demographer will provide tutorials and answer questions related to drafting your own proposed district map(s).

PHASE II ● Form of Government & Election Year

Late July thru September 15, 2018; District Map Development

The community is invited to utilize a variety of tools to aid them in the drawing proposed districts. Residents and stakeholders can draw their own proposed district or draw districts for the entire City. Once completed, all proposals will be forwarded to the City's demographer who will generate the population and other demographic details for the proposed maps.

Thursday, September 27, 2018; 6:00 p.m.: City Council Meeting (Video / Agenda)

The CVRA Community Working Group will submit its recommendations to the City Council for consideration related to governance structure, communities of interest, election year, and the sequence of elections at a City Council Study Session.

Thursday, October 4, 2018; 6:00 p.m.: City Council Meeting (Video / Agenda)

A City Council meeting to discuss the CVRA Community Working Group's recommendations and to seek resident and stakeholder input on the proposed governance structure, sequence of elections, election year, and proposed district maps. It is anticipated that the City Council will provide direction regarding a preferred governance structure.

Thursday, October 18, 2018; 6:00 p.m.: City Council Meeting (Video / Agenda)

A City Council meeting to seek resident and stakeholder input on the remaining proposed district maps. It is anticipated that the City Council will narrow the number of proposed district maps to no more than 5 preferred maps.

The City Council Ad Hoc Subcommittee on the Voting Rights Act and staff will facilitate three (3) Community Engagement Forums throughout Palm Springs to seek input from residents and stakeholders on selecting a final map and determining if any modifications are necessary.

Bayanihan Community Outreach

  • Saturday, October 27, 2018; 6:30p.m. - Demuth Park Community Center

Public gathering for the Filipino-American community and communities of color and their allies in the Veteran's Track aka Demuth Park Neighborhood to learn more and give feedback about the Palm Springs Redistricting Process and the proposed maps for five districts. Thursday, November 15, 2018; 6:00 p.m.: City Council Meeting (Video)

A City Council meeting to seek resident and stakeholder input on the content of the draft district map(s) and sequence of elections. It is anticipated that the City Council will narrow the proposed district maps to a preferred 1-2 maps.
