  • What are the Library's operating hours?

    • The Library's operating hours (as of July 1, 2013) are as follows:

  • Does the Library have computers for public use? If I don't have a Library Card, can I use a computer?

    • Yes, the Library has computers for public use. With a Library Card, you can use our Sit-Down Computers for one session of one hour a day (if you finish your session early, that counts as your session for the day). Without a Library Card, 15 Minute Stand-Up Computers are available for use (first come, first served).

  • Can I print a document at the Library? Can I print from my smart phone, laptop or tablet?

    • Yes, all public computers allow printing (in black and white only). The cost is $0.25 per page. To print from a smart phone, laptop or tablet please click on the WiFi button on the PSPL homepage or click here to learn how to print via WiFi at PSPL. Change machines are located in the Computer Room.

      To pay with a debit/credit card ($1.00 minimum) or to pay for a print job from a Stand-Up Computer or from WiFi, please visit the Services Desk at the Palm Springs Public Library.

  • Does the Library have a copy machine?

    • Yes, the Library has a copy machine. It is located in the Computer Room. For black and white copies, the charge is $0.25 a page and $0.50 a page for color. Change machines are located in the Computer Room.

    • No, the Library does not have a public fax machine or a public scanner.

  • Does the Library offer Computer Classes?

    • The library offers a wide assortment of free Computer Classes. To see the full selection, please visit the Computer Skills Classes Section on the Policies and Services page; to see upcoming classes, please visit the PSPL Event Calendar. To sign up, please call the library at 760-322-READ (7323) or stop by the Information Desk and ask to speak with a Librarian. Classes often fill up early.

  • Does the Library offer Literacy Programs or Tutoring?

    • The Library currently does not offer a Literacy Program. The Library also does not offer Tutoring. Other individuals or groups may utilize the space at the Library for Tutoring with some restrictions; please see the Tutoring Section on the Policies and Services Page for policies regarding Tutoring in the Library.

  • Can I take pictures in the Library?

    • Yes, noncommercial/amateur photography is permitted with some limitations. For information on restrictions regarding noncommercial/amateur photography and for information about commercial photography, please visit the Noncommercial and Filming Policy on the Policies and Services Page.

  • Can I volunteer at the Library?

    Please Note: PSPL is not accepting new volunteer applications at this time.

    • Yes! The Palm Springs Public Library loves its Volunteers! For more information about volunteering at the Library, when PSPL is accepting such applications, please visit the Volunteer Page.

  • How do I donate materials to the Library?

    • Thank you for thinking of us! The Friends of the Palm Springs Public Library handle donations of books, DVDs, CDs, magazines and other items. Small donations (such as a bag of books) may be placed in the donation bin at the Main Entrance to the Library. For larger donations, please contact the Friends of the Palm Springs Library at (760) 668-8838. Proceeds from the sales of donated items benefit the Friends of the Palm Springs Library.

  • Who are the Friends of the Palm Springs Library?  What do they do and how do I join?

    • The Friends of the Palm Springs Library (FOPSL) are enthusiastic supporters who promote interest in the Library and encourage and administer dues, gifts, and bequests. Library Friends often sponsor a book club, and help promote the critical fundraising programs and special events that help raise the funds needed to purchase Library materials and equipment. To join, visit the Membership Page of the Friends of the Palm Springs Library Website. You can also pick up membership forms at the Palm Springs Public Library.

  • How do I get a Library Card?

  • I don't live in Palm Springs. Can I get a Library Card?

    • Yes! Library Cards are not limited to Palm Springs residents. Please see the Library Card and Library Card Use Section on the Policies and Services Page for more information. Out of state residents/visitors who do not own property in California may also purchase a Fee Card.

  • I have a card from another Library. Will my card work at the Palm Springs Public Library?

    • The Palm Springs Public Library is a City Library; Library Cards from other Libraries will not work at the Palm Springs Public Library. Please see the Library Card and Library Card Use Section on the Policies and Services Page to learn how to get a Palm Springs Public Library Card.

  • How long can I check out items? How many items can I check out?

    • All items are checked out for two weeks. A total of 30 items at a time may be checked out (DVDs are limited to 15 at a time). For more information on check-out limits please see the Loans Section of the Polices and Services Page

  • What if I forget to return items on time? What if I've lost an item or damaged an item?

    • We understand things happen. If you can't find an item, take another look under the sofa, in the car, behind the bed or TV. If you are concerned about fines or have lost or damaged an item, give us a phone call at (760) 322-READ (7323) or stop by the Services Desk.

  • I have some fines on my card. Can I check out more items?

    • You can check out items as long as your fines and fees are less than $5.00.

  • I just checked out some DVDs and/or CDs. Why can't I open them?

    • All DVDs and CDs are locked and need to be unlocked after check out. We're sorry you didn't notice the signs by the self checkout stations, but if you return back to the library we can help you unlock them.

      To unlock DVDs and CDs, place them in the black box located on the right side of the self checkout station with the lock side facing down and the spine with the title facing up (typically, with the front of the item facing right). Pull the item towards you; check to make sure the red lock (locked) has changed to green (unlocked). Please see the Services Desk if you have any difficulty unlocking an item.

  • If the Library is closed, can I still return items?

    • Yes! The Library Return is open 24/7/365.

  • How can I check my Library Card Account Status and PIN?

    • Please log into your account on the Library website. The username/barcode is your Library Card number. The default PIN is usually the last 4 digits of the phone number associated with the Library Card.

  • Why doesn't my Library Card work anymore?

    • Please give us a call at (760) 322-READ (7323) or stop by the Services Desk so we can check the status of your account. If you have no fines or fees, it is likely your card has expired (Library Cards expire every three years).

  • How can I place a hold on an item that is checked out?

    • Most items can have holds placed on them (Hot Off the Press items and items not checked out cannot have holds placed on them). To place a hold on an item, you can call the Library at (760) 322-READ (7323), stop by the Services Desk, use the PSPL Mobile App or log into your account on the Library Website.

  • The Library doesn't have the item I want. Can I request materials not listed in the Library Catalog?

    • Yes, please stop by the Information Desk and ask to speak with a librarian. The librarian will evaluate your request and determine if the item is available via interlibrary loan. Interlibrary loan requests are a nonrefundable $3.00 per item and can take 2 weeks (sometimes longer) to arrive. Items which are less than 6 months old are not available for interlibrary loan.   • How can I request the Library to purchase an item?

    • Please stop by the Information Desk and ask to speak with a librarian. Your request will be submitted to the librarian in charge of the relevant collection for evaluation.     • Yes, the Welwood Murray Memorial Library has computers for public use; no Library Card is required. There is free internet access and free WiFi. To connect to WiFi, join the Welwood Murray Memorial Library Network. Open up a browser on your device, check the box accepting the user agreement and then click the green button to submit. WiFi use does not require a library card.
