The mission of the Palm Springs Fire Department is to save lives and property by providing an adequate level of fire protection and medical emergency response at a reasonable cost to the citizens, workers and visitors of the City
The Palm Springs Fire Department was established in 1931 for fire suppression. Since that time, the Department has developed into an organization which provides full-service emergency response. The Palm Springs Fire Department has 56 employees. 48 firefighters are stationed out of the city’s four fire stations. There are a total of 16 firefighters on duty every day and they work a 24 hour shift. There are three shifts, each with 16 firefighters and collectively they provide 24/7 protection of the city. Included in these numbers are 3 fire engineers assigned to each shift (9 total) who provide aircraft rescue firefighting and emergency medical service to the airport. The fire department is an all-risk emergency response force with capabilities to provide fire and rescue operations, basic and advanced (paramedic) emergency medical service, heavy rescue, swiftwater rescue, trench rescue, and hazardous materials incident response and decontamination. In addition we conduct fire prevention inspections, public education programs, and respond to a variety of public service calls. In calendar year 2009 the department responded to 7211 calls for service.
