Desert Community Energy Board Meeting

Residents are invited to attend the Board meeting for a newly formed locally controlled electricity provider called Desert Community Energy, (DCE), on Monday, Jan. 13 in Palm Springs.

The 3:30 p.m. meeting will take place at the Police Training Center, 200 S. Civic Drive.

Currently, Palm Springs residents receive their electricity from Southern California Edison. Beginning in April 2020, they will now have an opportunity to receive clean renewable energy at competitive rates when the new energy provider, set up by the cities of Palm Springs, Cathedral City and Palm Desert, starts serving customers in Palm Springs.

Residents will be automatically enrolled in Desert Community Energy’s 100 percent carbon-free program, which is considered the best way to reduce your carbon footprint.

Customers can also choose to opt down to a less expensive and green program called ‘Desert Saver”, which provides energy at a lower rate than Southern California Edison – or they can completely opt out of (DCE) programs and continue receiving their electricity from Edison. Look for more information about the new energy provider in the mail, coming soon.

Monday’s Board meeting will focus on setting Desert Community Energy’s rate program along with discussing plans for net energy metering for solar customers, according to Mayor Geoff Kors, who serves as Chair of the DCE Board.
