Palm Springs Genealogical Society presents "Control Your Legacy With A Living Obituary" presented by Janet Dagley.

This free program will be from 10:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Mizell Center in their Community Room.

Did you know that most news organizations keep advance obituaries on file for most famous people? This presentation will help you prepare your own living obituary and help preserve your legacy. Why leave it to your bereaved family to summarize your life at the worst possible time for them? That is likely to lead to mistakes that will be repeated through the generations. As a kindness to future genealogists, spell it out yourself while you can.

As a journalist, Janet Dagley has written the obituaries of such famous people as Truman Capote, Benny Goodman, and Sammy Davis, Jr., and contributed to dozens more. In her genealogical research, she has studied hundreds of other obituaries. She has also learned from mistakes in her own family's obits. She is the author of the forthcoming book People We Come From, as well as a series of ebooks on her family's role in American history.

Assisted Listening Devices (ALDs) are instruments designed to amplify sounds to make it easier for persons who are hearing‑impaired to enjoy a library program.

Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program, service, or activity of the City of Palm Springs, should contact the ADA Coordinator, as soon as possible but no later than 48 hours before the scheduled event.
