The City of Palm Springs has a variety of sustainability and recycling programs. Click the topics on the left for more information on each. Below is some of the latest news on program activities . . .
Community Garden Dedication December 19
On Thursday December 19th at 11:30 AM, the City of Palm Springs will hold a dedication ceremony at the Community Garden behind DeMuth Park to honor former Sustainability Manager, Michele Mician. We encourage everyone who knew or worked with Michele to take part. Michele was responsible for starting the Community Garden in addition to so many other City sustainability initiatives. We will begin at 11:30 with remarks from City staff, unveil the new plaque of the renamed garden, and encourage participants to share their thoughts about Michele’s lasting legacy. There will be an informal reception after the ceremony at the DeMuth Community Center.
Please contact Patrick Tallarico (Patrick.tallarico@palmspringsca.gov) if you plan to attend. We look forward to seeing you there.

New Battery Recycling Program
The City of Palm Springs is launching a new battery recycling program that allows residents and visitors to drop off their used batteries and small electronics at one of seven convenient locations throughout the city.
This program fills an important gap in public and private recycling programs. Batteries that are in many common electronic devices such as watches, hearing aids, clocks, computer peripherals, and cameras are considered household hazardous waste and must not be placed in trash or in recycling containers. Please click on the Battery Recycling Program link to the left for more details about the program.

Plastic Straw and Styrofoam Pollution
The fourth grade class at the Desert Learning Center in Palm Springs along with their teacher, Ms Yada, have produced two Public Service Announcements (PSA) on the dangers of plastic straw and Styrofoam pollution in an effort to save sea turtles. The PSA's were shown to members of the Sustainability Commission and City Council along with presentations from the students. The Sustainability Commission is currently looking at this subject and appreciates the work these students have done. The links below will take you to the PSA's:
