The City of Palm Springs Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce the completion of a major technology upgrade at the James O. Jessie Desert Highland Unity Center, thanks to a $56,196 grant from the California Public Utilities Commission’s California Advanced Services Fund (CASF) Broadband Adoption program.

The project, led by the City’s Information Technology Department, significantly expands public internet access throughout the facility. Upgrades include 16 new computer workstations featuring new monitors, keyboards, mice, desks, and ergonomic chairs, as well as full-site Wi-Fi coverage, including areas that previously had little to no connectivity, such as the gymnasium and meeting rooms. These upgrades are designed to provide a more comfortable and efficient learning and working environment for users of all ages.

“This is more than a technology improvement, it’s an investment in our residents and their future,” said Nicholas Gonzalez, Parks and Recreation Director. “Whether it's for homework, job applications, or accessing critical services, our community now has the tools and connectivity to succeed. We thank the CPUC for their support and extend special recognition to our IT Department for leading this important work.”

James O. Jessie Desert Highland Unity Center, located at 480 W. Tramview Road, offers a range of recreational and educational services. The new layout and technology investments provide free, reliable internet access to patrons and improve the Center’s ability to serve residents of all ages.
