After two weeks of packing, moving, and unpacking the Palm Springs Public Library is ready to open the doors on Monday, August 25, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at its temporary home at Rimrock Plaza, located at 4721 E. Palm Canyon Drive, Palm Springs 92264, on the corner of Gene Autry Trail and Palm Canyon Drive.

The City Council approved the temporary location in June for a three-year lease agreement with the owners of Rimrock Plaza for a 6000 square foot storefront for use during the library renovation.

The Library will maintain the same hours of operation, Monday through Saturday as it did in the building on Sunrise, opening each day at 10 a.m. and closing at 6 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays, staying open until 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, closing at 5 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and closed on Sundays.  The Library will have a capsule collection of select materials in addition to new items that come in almost daily, available to check out. Plus, there will be public computers, preschool and baby story times, and Passport Acceptance Services by appointment. In addition, and back by popular demand, the Friends of the Library will continue to sell gently used books at the library’s temporary location.  These services are in addition to the digital services offered including eBooks, downloadable music, e-Magazines, streaming television and movies, language learning, and more!  

Teen and Adult programs will also continue at various locations throughout the city, including at the Welwood Murray Memorial Library, located in downtown Palm Springs at 100 S. Palm Canyon Drive and Mizell Center. Other programs and locations to be announced.

The Library is also excited to announce the addition of a new collection for families, STEAM-TO-GO-KITS! These kits have interactive STEAM (science – technology – engineering – art – math) resources to create safe and innovative learning environments that foster the development of critical thinking, problem solving, and creativity. Each kit includes a high-interest book paired with interactive STEAM resources on the same topic. There are twenty kits available with various themes and can be checked out for two weeks. One kit can be taken out at a time.
