The Palm Springs Parks & Recreation Department is kicking off its annual overseeding program this fall to maintain healthy, green, and vibrant turf in City parks throughout the cooler months. Overseeding will begin at Demuth Park on September 22, 2025, and continue in phases across other parks through early December.
Each fall, warm-season Bermuda grass naturally goes dormant, turning brown as temperatures drop. To keep parks lush and usable, the City overseeds with cool-season ryegrass that thrives in winter conditions. This sustainable practice ensures that city parks remain welcoming for sports, recreation, and community events all year long.
Important Reminder: Please Stay Off the Grass
During the overseeding process, especially between scalping and first mowing, residents are kindly asked to avoid walking or playing on grass areas under renovation. This helps the new ryegrass establish strong, healthy roots.
Signage will be posted at each location to let the public know which areas are currently under maintenance.
The City of Palm Springs sincerely thanks all park visitors for their patience and cooperation during this temporary maintenance period. These efforts help keep our parks green, clean, and ready for all to enjoy.
