The City of Palm Springs is pleased to announce the arrival of “Deriva Floral”, an art installation created by the acclaimed Mexican artist Daniel “Mestiz” Valero from our Sister City, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Installation of the artwork will begin October 8, along Museum Way adjacent to Downtown Park.

An official ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, October 15 at 9:30 a.m. Speakers will include Mayor Ron deHarte, members of the City Council, Tania Castillo, director of Tourism from San Miguel de Allende and Gary Armstrong, President of Palm Springs Sister Cities.

“Deriva Floral” is a sensory celebration of color, craft, and cultural identity that define the iconic Mexican city. This vibrant exhibition features 36 handcrafted flowers, each measuring nearly 4 feet, some of them suspended in the air, creating an immersive experience.

“We are excited to host this beautiful art installation from our Sister City, San Miguel de Allende. Cross-cultural exchanges like these build bridges across languages, customs, and generations, enriching both communities in the process,” said Mayor Ron deHarte. “When Mayor Trejo talked to me about this exhibit at the end of June, I asked how we could bring it to Palm Springs. Less than one hundred days later Deriva Floral will be a shining example of what happens when cities create relationships and share cultural traditions. We are grateful to San Miguel de Allende Mayor Trejo for his leadership and for bringing the exhibit to Palm Springs."

Funded entirely by San Miguel de Allende, “Deriva Floral” is a heartfelt gesture of cultural diplomacy and friendship.

“San Miguel de Allende has always been a beacon of creativity, artistry, and cultural fusion,” said Tania Castillo, director of Tourism from San Miguel de Allende. “Through San Miguel de Allende Around the World, we aim to bring the city’s essence to international audiences and strengthen cultural bridges with destinations that value art and heritage specially Sister Cities like Palm Springs.”

The art installation will be open to the public through November.

“This isn’t just another art display—it’s a chance to turn downtown into an immersive, Instagram-worthy destination that celebrates creativity, international friendship, and the beauty of Palm Springs,” said Gary Armstrong, President, Palm Springs Sister Cities. "Timed with National Arts and Humanities Month, the exhibition will showcase our city at its best, giving residents and visitors alike a reason to share the magic.”
