In celebration of Black History Month in February the Palm Springs Public Library has planned several programs. All are FREE and open to the public and everyone is invited to attend:
- Wednesday, February 4 – Kids D-I-Y Fun: Celebrating Black History Month at 1:30 p.m. at the Library at Rimrock Shopping Center. For students in PreK – 5 grades.
- Sunday, February 8 - “Our Voices, Our Stories: Celebrating Black Authors” at 10 AM – 1PM at Mizell Center. Register at: http://bit.ly/4sDg3Ft
The event will begin with a welcome reception featuring a variety of bagels and spreads, coffee, and mimosas from 10-10:30 AM. The Best Bookstore in Palm Springs will have books from our featured authors available for purchase. At 10:30 AM the first featured author former NFL Player RK Russell in conversation with Lorenzo Taylor. They will be discussing Russell’s Memoir “The Yards Between Us”, followed by screenwriter and playwright Toni Ann Johnson in conversation with Marilyn F. Solomon. They will discuss her soon to be released book “But Where’s Home?” (to be released February 10, 2026) which is short story collection that lays bare the realities of Black life in America. Co-presented with Brothers of the Desert and Mizell Center.
- Thursday, February 19 – Story Time at 10:30 a.m., at the Library at Rimrock Shopping Center. The theme is “Let’s make some music together! A Black History Month Celebration!”, for newborns to age 5.
- Tuesday, February 24 – Family Event to Celebrate Black History Month with Author Charlie Ervin. Come to the Library at Rimrock Shopping Center from
4:00 – 5:00 PM. Author Charlie Ervin, will be reading his new book, “Tu‑Tu & Lizard Great Escape”. After the story, kids can enjoy a fun, hands‑on craft inspired by the book’s characters and adventure.
