The City of Palm Springs together with the Palm Springs Black History Committee proudly invite the community to its 39th Annual Black History Parade & Town Fair on Saturday, February 28, at 11 a.m. This annual event brings together residents and visitors to celebrate unity, reflect on history, and uplift the voices and achievements that continue to shape the community.
Serving as this year’s Parade Grand Marshal is Ron Oden, Palm Springs’ first African American Mayor, whose historic leadership and lifelong commitment to public service continue to inspire our community. Joining him as Town Fair Grand Marshal is Dr. Marcus Funchess, the first African American Superintendent of Palm Springs Unified School District, recognized for his dedication to educational excellence and empowering future generations.
The celebration kicks off at 11:00 AM with the highly anticipated Black History Parade, beginning on Baristo Road and traveling to Alejo Road. Spectators will be treated to a spectacular P-51 Mustang flyover courtesy of the Palm Springs Air Museum. The P-51 Mustang, painted with a crimson red tail, represents the contributions made to the war effort by the esteemed Tuskegee Airmen. The parade will also feature community groups, local leaders, and performers that showcase the spirit, pride, and diversity of Palm Springs.
Immediately following the parade, join us at the Town Fair at the Downtown Park, 230 Museum Drive, directly across from the Palm Springs Art Museum, for live entertainment, delicious food, community vendors, and family-friendly activities.
To register as a parade entry or to become a vendor at the Town Fair, please contact Ann Collins at ann.collins@palmspringsca.gov for more information and entry details. For additional information, and more Black History Month events visit: www.palmspringsblackhistory.org/event-calendar
