The Palm Springs City Council will hold a special meeting on Thursday, August 20, to consider a potential appointment to the District 2 City Council seat. 

Jeffrey Bernstein is the sole candidate who filed nomination papers for the District 2 seat, who met the requirements of the nomination papers signed by at least 80 qualified registered voters, and is currently scheduled to appear on the November 3, 2026, General Municipal Election ballot.

Under California Elections Code § 10229, when only one candidate is nominated, the City Council may either appoint the nominated candidate or order an election, subject to statutory requirements. During Thursday’s special meeting, the City Council will consider whether to appoint Bernstein to the District 2 seat or order the election for that District to proceed.

The meeting begins at 9:00 a.m. in the Council Chamber at City Hall, 3200 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way.
