2013 Festival of Lights Parade Balloons
Updated on 04/22/2015 4:22 PM
More than 90 volunteers from eight of our neighborhood organizations "adopted" the seven giant, helium-filled balloons in the 2013 Festival of Lights Parade. These volunteers walked the balloons in the parade – lowering the large balloons to go under traffic signals and overhangs along Palm Canyon Drive, then letting them soar upright to the delight of young and old alike. Thanks to the balloon "wranglers" from these neighborhood organizations: Tahquitz River Esates, Racquet Club Estates, Sonora Sunrise, Deepwell Estates, El Mirador, Los Compadres, Warm Sands and Twin Palms. Also, thank you, to the Youth Advisory Council from Supervisor John J. Benoit's Office for helping us again this year. And, for the second consecutive year, the Mountain Gate Neighborhood Organzation had a float in the parade. They've gone from balloon wranglers to float builders! Some of the photos in this album were posted on Facebook and some were published in The Desert Sun.
