The City of Palm Springs is excited to announce that our community will soon enjoy the advantages of clean, carbon free power at competitive rates with Desert Community Energy. DCE is your community-based, locally controlled electricity provider serving Palm Springs.
As part of our commitment to sustainability and saving the planet, Palm Springs has chosen 100% Carbon Free power as the default option for our community. Starting in April 2020, all electricity accounts will be automatically transferred to DCE's 100% Carbon Free plan. The transition will be completely seamless to you and your service will not be interrupted. And you don’t need to do a thing—you’ll be automatically included in this greener energy program.
The Carbon Free plan is one of the best ways we as a community can reduce greenhouse gas emissions. You will see a slight increase in your electricity bill (about 10%), which is less than the green rate offered by Southern California Edison (SCE). You also have the choice to opt down to our Desert Saver plan which costs less than SCE, saving you money on your current bill. Or you can choose to opt out of both plans and keep SCE as your provider.
Palm Springs joined DCE because we wanted to provide a local choice for cleaner renewable electricity at competitive prices. Programs similar to this have been working throughout the state for years, offering a choice and making a positive impact on our environment. SCE will continue to deliver, maintain and service your electricity. And you’ll still get a single monthly bill from them, which will include DCE’s charge for electricity generation. Revenues from DCE will be reinvested into our own communities, creating jobs and more local renewable resources while helping reduce our carbon footprint.
Because DCE is committed to equity, all customers enrolled in CARE, FERA and Medical Baseline financial assistance programs will be enrolled in DCE’s 100% Carbon Free plan, but are being charged the lower cost Desert Saver rates and so will have additional savings on their bill while at the same time participating in the green economy. DCE is also investing in a significant outreach program to engage low-income residents in Palm Springs that may not currently be taking advantage of these financial assistance programs. For more information on how you can save up to 30% on your energy bill, call (760) 469-9284 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
