The Palm Springs City Council appreciates your interest in applying to serve on a Board or Commission. 

Please feel free to select more than one board that you may have an interest in serving on. Your application will be held for one year and considered for appointments following an unscheduled vacancy until April 2027.

Local Appointments List (Maddy Act)

Pursuant to Government Code Section 54971, the Local Appointments List is posted on or before December 31st of each year and contains a list of all appointive terms, the names of the incumbent appointees, the date of appointment, the date the term expires, and the necessary qualifications of the position.

Eligibility Requirements

• Applicants must either: live, work, or go to school within the City of Palm Springs.
• Applicants under the age of 18 will be considered.
• The City Council may also consider unique knowledge, skill, or experience in appointing a member to a Board or Commission. 

An appointment to a Board or Commission is for a term of three years; however, existing commissioners are eligible for an additional term, provided that the total number of years on such Commission or Board shall not exceed seven years. All appointees are subject to financial disclosure, including sources of income, property, investments, and gifts.

The Role of Boards and Commissions

The Boards and Commissions are groups of volunteers that advise the City Council and staff on matters that affect policy and issues that will affect the future of the community. They have been established to:

1. Advise the City Council on matters within their area of interest;
2. Enable more attention to be given to specific issues and problems;
3. Act as a channel of communication between City government and the public;
4. Provide a greater opportunity for citizen participation in the affairs of local government, and,
5. Make decisions on matters where the City Council has granted them authority to act.

Board or Commission Compensation

Board and Commission members serve without compensation for their services, but may receive reimbursements for necessary travel and other expenses incurred for official duty when such expenditure have been authorized.

Non-City Commission Appointments

In addition to the City of Palm Spring's Commissions and Boards, the City Council, pursuant to State Law, has the authority to appoint members to the following:

• Mount San Jacinto Winter Park Authority (Palm Springs Tramway Board)
  Pursuant to State Law the City Council appoints two members to the State of California, Mount San Jacinto Winter Park Authority, that includes the operation of the Palm Springs Tramway.  Current appointments expire September 30, 2023.

• Coachella Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District
  Pursuant to District Law the City Council appoints one-member to the Board of Trustees of the Coachella Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District.  Current appointment expired December 31, 2024.
