Assistance to Community Based Organizations

Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program 

Year 2018-2019

Each year the City of Palm Springs receives Community Development Block Grant funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Funds are allocated locally and are used for various programs and projects in the City. The following chart shows the allocation of $461,840 in new entitlement funding, for Fiscal Year 2018-2019. The total funds available for the 2018-2019 Fiscal Year, by eligibility category, are:

Public Facilities & Improvements will also be partially funded with program income and the reprogramming of unexpended activity funds, both from prior years and current.

Desert AIDS Project – Energy-Efficiency LED Retrofit Lighting
:  D.A.P.’s proposal is the continuation of their facility’s upgrades.  These upgrades will phase the installation work of LED lighting for energy cost reduction to increase funding by supporting direct medical and social services, benefiting members of our community.

MizellMizell Senior Center – Energy-Saving Patio Enclosure:  Mizell’s proposal is the continuation of their facility’s energy-efficiency upgrades.  These upgrades will convert an existing open-area patio space to a usable area for programs and services.

City of Palm Springs Public Works & Engineering – Citywide ADA Curb Ramp Improvements
:  The project proposes construction of new ADA curb ramps and upgrade of existing non-conforming ADA curb ramps in low/mod income eligible areas.

Public Services:

Fair Housing Logo                                                                                                                                             Fair Housing Council of Riverside County – Fair Housing Program:  Under CDBG guidelines, the City is mandated to provide its residents a fair housing program.  The Fair Housing Council requested these funds to provide comprehensive services that affirmatively address and promote fair housing (anti-discrimination) rights and landlord/tenant services to the City of Palm Springs.

 


Council  on Aging Southern CaliforniaCouncil on Aging Southern California - Long Term Care Ombudsman:
The council requested funds to expand their existing services by providing protection and advocacy for all residents living-in Palm Springs skilled nursing and residential care facilities.

 

JFS of the Desert


Jewish Family Service of the Desert - Senior Care Emergency Assistance:  JFS requested funds to provide emergency assistance to low-income seniors who are experiencing a severe financial crisis and at-risk for housing insecurity or becoming homeless.

Rehabilitation:

Home Repair NEW                                                                                                                                                The The City operates the Home Repair Program.  This program assists very low-income homeowners with minor routine maintenance, emergency repair sand accessibility modifications at nominal costs, including other related health and safety code work.

 

 

Total Rehabilitation:  $16,016
