CP 01-11 INDIAN CANYON BRIDGE

CP 12-02 SOUTH PALM CANYON BRIDGE NEAR TAHQUITZ CREEK

Status -Construction in Progress
The existing bridge, originally constructed in 1930, is outdated and structurally deficient. Also, the current bridge approach configuration creates a bottleneck for traffic on S. Palm Canyon Drive. The proposed project will replace the existing bridge to address its outdated structure, safety concerns, and the traffic bottleneck it creates. The work will include:
- Demolition and reconstruction of the bridge over the Tahquitz Creek Channel.
- Reconstruction of the channel slopes around the bridge.
- Street reconstruction of South Palm Canyon Drive, which includes new curb and gutter, sidewalks, and storm drains.
- Installation of new landscaped medians and parkways.
- New traffic signal improvements.
- Installation of a domestic waterline.
- New street lighting and striping.

CP 16-08 LIBRARY RENOVATION
Status - Construction in Progress
Timeline and periodic updates – Construction began in September 2025, with completion expected by February 2027.
Scope of work - The Project consists of Demolition and new Renovation activities at the Palm Springs Public Library and Frey Building. Construction activities are advancing across the Main Library and Frey Building. Crews continue installing Interior Framing, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing (MEP) systems, cutting new door openings through existing block walls to improve accessibility to the newly designed rooms. Grading and pouring concrete curbs for the new South parking lot. A new exit and entrance will be constructed onto Sunrise Way with a Right in Right out from the parking lot. The existing Sunrise Median island will be extended North on Sunrise. New SCE power line has been installed and ongoing infrastructure for drainage and new desert landscaping are continuing with installations.

While motorists should expect lane closures and minor delays, when construction begins on the new entrance into the library parking lot and to extend the median island on Sunrise Way. One lane in each direction will always remain open on Sunrise Way and no full roadway closure is anticipated.

CP 25-06 SWIM CENTER IMPROVEMENTS
Status – Design in Progress
Timeline and periodic updates – Construction Document phase, and project is under review by the City Planning Dept.
Scope of work – Complete renovation of the swim centers administration office, locker rooms, new entry spaces to include a new accessible north entry gate for events and new landscaping.
What to expect – Upon design approval by the Planning Dept. Plans and specs will be prepared for the approval by the City Council to put this project out to bid. A Public Notice for this will be issued Fall/Winter of 2026.

CP 22-24, DEMUTH PARK PICKLEBALL COURT EXPANSION
Status – Construction in Progress
Timeline and periodic updates – Construction is ongoing and project expected to be completed by 09/2026.
Scope of work – The work comprises of the demolition of existing Pickleball Courts, Tennis Court, picnic areas, and surrounding park space and construction of a new Pickleball Complex Court with seating areas, planters, drinking fountains, courts, lighting, drainage retention area, shade structures throughout, and new electrical service upgrade
Milestones
- March 2026: Light installation complete
- April 2026: Concrete placement will be complete by the end of April
- June 2026: Court fence post and shade structure foundations completed by end of June.
- July 2026: Court painting, landscape, irrigation, and other hardscape structures to be installed.
- August: Energize lighting by mid- to late-August, pending delivery of back-ordered electrical equipment.
What to expect – Construction work will take place Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 4:00pm (except holidays). The city has contracted with DeArk E&C, the project is 70% complete, construction crews are setting the fence poles and working on the irrigation system. Flatwork is set to start the week of July 7. Courts are scheduled to be painted in late July, and the contractor anticipates completion mid to late August. Southern California Edison Crews will be on site Mid to late August to replace Utility equipment off Vela Road across from the Animal Shelter.

CP 21-16, DEMUTH PARK DEVELOPMENT
Status – Construction in Progress
Timeline and periodic updates – Construction is ongoing and project expected to be completed by 11/01/2026.
Scope of work – The work comprises of grading and construction of large dog park with ADA parking spaces, a small dog park, conversion of an existing 2.2-acre dirt lot into a 165-stall paved parking lot with drainage improvements, repaving of the Community Center parking lot, repaving and drainage repairs at the Little League parking lots, installation of ADA drinking fountains, and sidewalk and pathway restoration.
What to expect – Construction work will take place Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 4:00pm (except holidays). The city has contracted with Zeco Inc. The project is 50% complete, construction crews are working on the New DeMuth Community Center Parking Lot (Schedule A). Paving scheduled for the week of July 13th. Large Dog Park (A) flatwork is ongoing; shade structures are currently being installed. CVLink users urged to use caution around this area, look out for detour the week of July 13th as paving crews will be on site. Small Dog Park (A) Concrete work will begin the week of July 6th and shade structure installation. Little League Parking Lot (C), work is complete pending the installation of sod at retention basin and trash enclosure gates. Restroom Building (B), Currently on hold due to re-design for the use of solar (PV) and re-claimed water for toilet rooms. Drinking fountain (B) installations to begin late July.

CP 18-06 VICTORIA PARK RESTROOM UPGRADE
Status – Construction in Progress
Timeline and periodic updates – Construction is anticipated began June 2026, with completion expected by December 2026.
Scope of work - The Project consists of constructing a new 5 stall restroom building that include 2 ADA stalls within the Victoria Park. Construction fencing has been installed, and trenching has begun on the footings. The current restroom will be demolished once the new facility is fully completed and operational. New turf and desert landscaping will be installed at the construction areas once the new facility is constructed and the old restroom has been removed.

CP 26-01 2026 PAVEMENT REHABILITATION
Status - Construction in Progress
Timeline and periodic updates – Construction is scheduled to begin in July 2026 and is expected to be complete by September 2026. Click here for anticipated street construction schedule.
Scope of work - The Project will include over 2-million square feet of pavement rehabilitation across various arterials, collectors, and residential streets along with in-road utility adjustments and concrete replacement (ADA ramps, spandrels, curb & gutter) in select areas.

CP 26-02 2026 SLURRY SEAL

Timeline and periodic updates – Construction is expected to begin in September 2026 and is expected to be complete by January 2027.
Scope of work - The Project will include approximately 2-million square feet of slurry seal across various arterials, collectors, and residential streets.

CP 22-21A SOUTH PALM CANYON ROAD RECONFIGURATION

Scope of work - The Project consists of roadway improvements along South Palm Canyon Drive between Acanto Drive and East Palm Canyon Drive. Improvements include the installation of Class II bicycle lanes, pavement resurfacing, associated signing and striping, and the construction of new sidewalk segments and ADA-compliant curb ramps at strategic locations to enhance pedestrian connectivity and accessibility. The Project will reconfigure the existing four-lane roadway into a three-lane cross section consisting of one travel lane in each direction and a continuous two-way left-turn lane to improve multimodal mobility and roadway safety.

- Traffic control devices will be used to separate traffic from the work site. Navigate the construction zone with care, driving slowly and safely.

CP 23-16 WWTP ODOR CONTROL IMPROVEMENTS
Status - Construction Contract Award
Timeline and periodic updates – Construction is anticipated to begin sometime between in early 2027.
Scope of work - The project will add two new aluminum covers to the two primary clarifiers at the wastewater treatment plant to help reduce Wastewater treatment process odors in the surrounding area. Work includes removing old walkway and cover components, installing full‑surface flat covers on both clarifiers, and connecting the system to the plant’s existing odor‑control equipment.

CP 25-03 STORM DRAIN LINE 6, STAGE 3
Status - Design in Progress
Timeline and periodic updates – City crews will be performing field investigations during summer 2026, which may require intermittent temporary lane closures. Construction is anticipated to begin in summer 2028. As project moves from design to construction, more information regarding duration will be provided.
Scope of work – The City is situated in Zone 6 of the Riverside County Flood Control and Water Conservation District. This project is part of the Palm Springs Master Drainage Plan. The project encompasses the design and construction of the Master Drainage Plan (MDP) Line 6, Stage 3 extension. The alignment begins at the intersection of E. Francis Drive and N. Avenida Caballeros, conveying flows southerly along N. Avenida Caballeros. Upon reaching the terminus at E. Vista Chino and California State Route 111, the system will outlet into the existing MDP Lines 5 and 6 facilities at the intersection with Vista Chino.

CP 25-13 TAHQUITZ CANYON SEWER REPAIR
Status - Design In Progress
Timeline and periodic updates – City crews will be performing field investigations during summer 2026, which may require intermittent temporary lane closures. All investigative work will take place in the westbound lanes. Construction is anticipated to begin in summer 2027. As project moves from design to construction, more information regarding duration will be provided.
Scope of work – The City will be installing a new sewer line along Tahquitz Canyon Way, from El Cielo to Sunset Way. This project will replace an aging and damaged 8-inch sewer line with a new 12-inch line, improving reliability and increasing system capacity in this surcharged area.

Timeline and periodic updates – Construction is currently paused and is expected to resume in October 2026, upon delivery of long lead time materials.
Scope of work – The City of Palm Springs is planning safety improvements at seven signalized intersections throughout the City as part of the federally funded Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP). The project is designed to improve visibility and enhance safety for drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists. Improvements will vary by location and may include upgraded traffic signal equipment, protected left-turn phases, new pedestrian countdown signals, video detection cameras, enhanced pavement markings and signage, and ADA curb ramp improvements. Several existing traffic signal poles and foundations will also be replaced to support the upgraded systems. The project includes improvements at the following intersections:

CP 24-05 INDIAN CANYON DR. x VIA ESCUELA TRAFFIC SIGNAL INSTALLATION

Scope of work – As identified in the City’s Local Road Safety Plan (LRSP) and through community feedback, the intersection of Indian Canyon Drive and Via Escuela has been recognized as a location that would benefit from roadway safety improvements.
