Project Background
The City’s twelve (12) existing pickleball courts are located at Demuth Park at 4375 E. Mesquite Avenue. The courts are highly utilized year-round and provide a free health and wellness recreational amenity for the community. The Parks & Recreation Commission and members of the pickleball community mutually agreed that there was a need to increase the number of courts available in Palm Springs to better meet the high demands of players in the growing pickleball community, as well as to create a cohesive design and better-functioning recreational amenity.
Construction Scope of work
The work comprises demolishing existing Pickleball Courts, Tennis Court, picnic areas and surrounding park space. Construction includes 22 new Pickleball courts with seating areas, planters, drinking fountains, courts, lighting, drainage retention area, shade structures throughout, and new electrical service upgrade. The construction costs for this project is approximately $5.1 Million and is funded partially through Measure J.
Note – The playground, restrooms, and parking lot will remain open during construction. There may be portions of the parking lot that may need to be reserved for construction equipment at a later date.
Temporary Pickleball Courts
To ensure continued access to pickleball during the construction period, the City has partnered with the College of the Desert to provide 12 temporary courts near the College's satellite campus on S. Hermosa Drive, near E. Baristo Road. These temporary courts are now open for use.
Status - Construction in Progress
The Project will start construction towards the end of September 2025 and will be completed by Summer 2026.

CP 01-11B INDIAN CANYON DRIVE SEWER PHASE 2
Status - Construction In Progress
This project comprises the installation of approximately 8,875 linear feet of 10-inch PVC sewer pipeline along North Indian Canyon Avenue from, including the construction of 24 manholes. The pipe will have an average depth of 7 feet, with some sections reaching up to 11 feet. A portion of the pipeline, approximately 1,200 feet, will require microtunneling beneath existing Jointed Plain Concrete Pavement (JPCP), necessitating the construction of launch and reception shafts. The remaining 7,675 feet will be installed using open-cut trenching methods. The project will encompass site preparation, including surveying, utility locates, traffic control, and erosion control. Installation will involve excavation, pipe laying, backfilling, and repair of the installation trench and removed asphalt concrete. Manhole construction will include excavation, installation of precast or cast-in-place structures, and secure pipe connections. All disturbed areas will be restored to city’s specified condition.
Schedule – Utility location work in the area from Tramway Road to Sunrise Parkway on Wednesday July 23rd working through Friday July 25th this week. This will affect both Northbound lanes at different stretches. Construction is projected to continue through May 2026.
The installation will involve a combination of tunneling beneath concrete pavement in certain areas and open trench methods for the majority of the pipeline. As work progresses, the project will impact both the No. 1 North and Southbound lanes of Indian Canyon Drive, necessitating periodic lane closures in specific sections of the road.
Please exercise caution when traveling through the construction zone and be aware of changing traffic patterns. The Construction Managers will be providing periodic updates on the project as it progresses.
PLEASE USE ALTERNATE ROUTES TO AVOID TRAFFIC CONGESTION AND EXPECT DELAYS AROUND THE AFFECTED AREAS.

CP 24-05 INDIAN CANYON DR. x VIA ESCUELA TRAFFIC SIGNAL INSTALLATION
Project Contact Info: (760) 323-8253 x8740; Anthony.Acosta@palmspringsca.gov
Status - Construction Contract Awarded
The City of Palm Springs has awarded a construction contract to California Professional Engineering, Inc. for the installation of a new traffic signal at the intersection of Indian Canyon Drive & Via Escuela.
Because traffic signal poles require a significant fabrication period, major construction activity is not expected to begin until late Spring or early Summer 2026. The project is anticipated to be completed between late Summer and early Fall 2026.
Why is this traffic signal being installed?
As identified in the City’s Local Road Safety Plan (LRSP) and through community feedback, this intersection has been recognized as a location that would benefit from roadway safety improvements. The LRSP recommends installing a traffic signal here to enhance safety for all roadway users.
In the meantime, minor intermittent work, such as underground utility potholing, may occur prior to major construction. Traffic impacts during this early preparatory work are expected to be minimal.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact Anthony Acosta at 760-323-8253 ext. 8740 or by email at anthony.acosta@palmspringsca.gov.
