Art in Public Places Program
About the Program
Established in 1988 by the Palm Springs City Council, the Public Arts Commission consists of nine members appointed by the Council. Under the direction of the Department of Housing and Community Development, the Commission aims to:

Implement a visual Public Arts Program for residents and visitors.

Enhance the economic viability of the community.

Promote and commission art installations throughout the city.

Enhance the environment and unique character of Palm Springs.
MissionThe Palm Springs Public Arts Commission is dedicated to the cultural enrichment of our civic environment in its role as an advocate for the arts in the City of Palm Springs. The Commission supports and develops arts and cultural programs that encourage community participation, attract visitors, boost economic development, and foster cultural partnerships, aiming to grow Palm Springs' identity as an innovative and creative community.

Funding
Funding for the Public Arts Program comes from fees collected for new development and remodel projects. Public Art Funds may be used for projects on public or private property subject to City Council approval. Developers who wish to install art in lieu of fees should refer to the guidelines below. Separate guidelines are available for murals.
