UPDATE: Park reopened May 15, 2026

The Demuth Park Development Project includes a series of site improvements to enhance Demuth Park for the community, improving its function and overall usability. The Project improvements include design of a permanent large dog park with ADA parking spaces, a small dog park, conversion of an existing 2.2-acre dirt lot into a 165-stall paved parking lot with drainage improvements, pavement of the Community Center parking lot, pavement and drainage repairs at the Little League parking lots, installation of ADA drinking fountains, and sidewalk and pathway restoration.

This project provides over $7,500,000 in improvements to Demuth Park, with community investment funding coming from Land and Water Conservation grant funds, Measure J Funds, Capital Funds, and Quimby funds, and 5 years of thorough assessments and project development.

Project Background

The City’s twelve (12) existing pickleball courts are located at Demuth Park at 4375 E. Mesquite Avenue. The courts are highly utilized year-round and provide a free health and wellness recreational amenity for the community. The Parks & Recreation Commission and members of the pickleball community mutually agreed that there was a need to increase the number of courts available in Palm Springs to better meet the high demands of players in the growing pickleball community, as well as to create a cohesive design and better-functioning recreational amenity.

Construction Scope of work

The work comprises demolishing existing Pickleball Courts, Tennis Court, picnic areas and surrounding park space. Construction includes 22 new Pickleball courts with seating areas, planters, drinking fountains, courts, lighting, drainage retention area, shade structures throughout, and new electrical service upgrade. The construction costs for this project is approximately $5.1 Million and is funded partially through Measure J.

Note – The playground, restrooms, and parking lot will remain open during construction. There may be portions of the parking lot that may need to be reserved for construction equipment at a later date.

Status of Project

Construction began October 2025 and will be completed by August 2026.

Milestones

• March 2026: Light installation complete
• April 2026: Concrete placement will be complete by the end of April
• June 2026: Court fence post and shade structure foundations completed by end of June.
• July 2026: Court painting, landscape, irrigation, and other hardscape structures to be installed.
• August: Energize lighting by mid- to late-August, pending delivery of backordered electrical equipment.
