Officers Assigned to the Palm Springs International Airport

AirportBureauThe Palm Springs Police Department is responsible for security and all matters pertaining to law enforcement, as mandated by Transportation Security Administration (TSA) rules and regulations. Palm Springs police officers are assigned to patrol the airport exclusively. Their primary roles are to respond to security screening alerts, traffic collisions, traffic control, security patrols and investigating crimes which occur on airport property.

Thanks to generous donations from our community, the Police Department's Airport Bureau uses explosives detection dogs. The dogs and their handlers are permanently assigned to the airport, but can be used on a call out basis for many different assignments.

The Palm Springs International Airport Covers 954 acres, is located on the east city limit of Palm Springs and serves the Coachella Valley, which has a combined population of over 410,000.

Alaska Airlines, Allegiant Air, Air Canada, American Airlines, Delta Airlines, Frontier Airlines, Jet Blue Airlines, United Airlines, United Express , and WestJet are some of the air carriers that serve Palm Springs International Airport.  More than two million passenger boardings were recorded in 2018. Over one hundred private aircraft are based at the airport which are serviced by Atlantic Aviation and Signature Aviation.

The Airport Bureau is primarily responsible for the Screening/Checkpoint area where passengers and their property are checked for any weapons, explosives or any item that is suspicious. The actual searching is conducted by the personnel of the TSA, federal government employees under the umbrella of the Office of Homeland Security. When any suspicious item or passenger is identified, officers are alerted and take appropriate action. Additionally, officers patrol the airport terminal, loading ramps, waiting areas, airport perimeter, parking facilities and all airport property.

The Airport Bureau assists the FBI, Secret Service, CIA, Capitol Police, various state police agencies, and foreign governments with dignitary details and other security events.

The Airport Bureau is proactive in preventing and suppressing criminal activity and works in partnership with the aviation community to enhance public safety. The Palm Springs Police Department provides superior law enforcement and security services for the protection of all persons and property at the Palm Springs International Airport.
