Low-Income Discount for Waste Pickup Services

The City of Palm Springs and Palm Springs Disposal Services (PSDS) are partnering to provide discounts of 15% off of the annual cost of waste pickup services for eligible low-income customers. Discounts will be granted to qualified applicants on a first-come, first-served basis in the order in which the application was received until the funds for the discount are used up.

To qualify, you must:

Be a residential subscriber to PSDS’s Basic Curbside Service
Customized services, such as the walk-up services, are not eligible for the discount

Vacation rental properties are not eligible for the discount

Meet the household income criteria for the California Alternative Rates for Energy (“CARE”) program through SCE, SoCalGas, or Desert Community Energy

The upper income limit for CARE is 200% of the Federal Poverty Guideline. Please see the chart below.

CARE Income Limits

Anyone who wants to receive the discount and has a qualifying income should complete an application. You will need to provide your name, PSDS account number, address where you receive PSDS service, mailing address, and proof of income eligibility. You can submit a copy of your utility bill to verify that you receive CARE.
