The Mission of the Palm Springs Human Rights Commission is to promote and protect the diversity of our community and to improve human relations through education and community awareness.

Commission Meetings

The City of Palm Springs established the Human Rights Commission in 1992. This nine member Commission is appointed by the City Council and currently meets at 5:00 P.M. the second Monday of each month at City Hall, 3200 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way, Palm Springs, CA.

Meetings are always open to the public and the Commission invites anyone with a human rights issue or question to speak during public comments at the beginning of each meeting. Public comments are limited to 3 minutes maximum.

Meeting agendas and minutes will be translated into Spanish upon request. If you require the assistance of a Spanish or American Sign Language interpreter to participate in the meeting, please contact the City Clerk's Office at least 48 hours prior to the meetings.

Mediation Services

Trained mediators are available to offer their services free to the community. Mediation helps resolve disputes before they can escalate into violence or litigation.

The Human Rights Commission mediates complaints of discrimination as prescribed by City Municipal Code that can be found on the City Clerk's webpage page. All parties must mutually agree to participate.

To file a complaint, complete the Complaint of Discrimination Form located in the Documents section.

Student Representative Program

The City of Palm Springs is offering a government representative program for students interested in applying for a non-voting position on the city's Human Rights Commission. The student representative program is designed to encourage volunteerism, civic responsibility and provide valuable real-life experiences for high school or college students who reside, work or go to school in Palm Springs. To be considered for a student position, please complete and submit a Student Representative Self-Nomination Form.

Military Sexual Trauma - Mental Health and the Coronavirus Pandemic

The VA uses the term “military sexual trauma” (MST) to refer to sexual assault or harassment experienced during military service. Living with MST or related conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic, can bring about some new challenges in managing your recovery. For help with treatment and health care related to experiences of MST, please contact your local VA medical center and ask to speak to the MST Coordinator.
